We are often contacted with regards to carrying out Loler inspections on pallet trucks.
While we can do this for you, it is not necessary. The guidence from the HSE, is that they only require a Loler inspection if they lift above 300mm from the ground, ie manual and electric high lift pallet trucks (sometimes called scissor lifts)
As a standard pallet truck only elevates the load upto 200mm from the ground, then they do not fall under Loler regulations.
Standard pallet trucks, (trucks that lift only 200mm from the ground) are exempt from Loler regulations, but like most items a company provides it's employees, a pallet truck is subject to PUWER regulations.
PUWER requires that equipment provided for use at work is:
Gives a call or email us to discuss your pallet trucks.
We will need to know what type of pallet trucks you have, are they just standard pallet trucks? or do you have high lift pallet trucks?
Once we have this information we can do the rest, after each service inspection you will receive a detailed pdf of the work carried out and any recommendations we have.
During the service inspection we will make sure that your pallet trucks have the correct safe working load identified on the frame.
This is becoming very important in business, and the general lack of knowledge on the subject and how it affects pallet trucks is profound.
Recently a study was carried out by a Theo Egberts testing team in the Netherlands.
During the test, they compared 17 pallet trucks from different manufacturers. The results were eye opening for the industry.
What the study doesn't identify is the effects of wear on the pallet trucks and the subsequent increase in effort required, this further shows the importance of regular maintenance.
